Become a Mentor for the Community Engagement Exchange Program 2025

The Community Engagement Exchange (CEE) Program is a prestigious initiative supported by the U.S. Department of State. It seeks to foster global connections by pairing experienced civil society experts with emerging leaders across the world. For the 2025 cohort, the CEE program is calling for applications to join as mentors. This role is critical in supporting CEE Fellows through their fellowship journey by offering guidance, access to networks, and various resources.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify as a CEE mentor, candidates must:

  • Be at least 28 years old.
  • Be U.S. Government exchange program alumni in good standing. U.S. citizens who have participated in programs like Fulbright, Peace Corps, or CEP Exchange are eligible.
  • Non-U.S. citizens must be eligible for a J-1 visa and should not have applied for U.S. permanent residency within the last three years.
  • Possess significant experience in civil society and community engagement.
  • Have experience mentoring emerging leaders, which is strongly preferred.

Roles and Responsibilities

The program requires mentors to engage in various activities throughout the fellowship. These include:

  • Participating in a required introductory call with IREX, the organization responsible for administering the program, on October 30, 2024.
  • Engaging in Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO), with materials and discussions hosted on Canvas.
  • Joining the Mentor Kick-Off event on December 11, 2024.
  • Participating in two virtual live sessions with their mentees before arriving in the U.S. for the practicum.
  • Attending in-person training during the Mentor Development Training (MDT) and Welcome Orientation in Chicago, Illinois, from March 7-14, 2025.
  • Supporting CEE Fellows throughout their Leadership and Civic Engagement Academy from March to June 2025.

Mentors will also play a crucial role in the End of Program Workshop held in Washington, D.C., from June 23-27, 2025.

Why Become a CEE Mentor?

Becoming a CEE mentor is an excellent opportunity for those passionate about community engagement. Mentors not only contribute to the professional growth of fellows but also broaden their own networks and skills in leadership development. They are involved in impactful events like Innovation Hubs and the CEE Welcome Orientation.

This role allows mentors to stay connected with global civil society trends and projects. It also fosters relationships with other experts, thus enriching both professional and personal development.
